This "place" that my friend,
Deirdre, is looking for -- I found it today! Just as
Steph said in the comments, it was serendipitous!
I've been feeling a little down and a little low for some time now. I'm a person who can be controlled (to a degree) by the weather. When it's hot and muggy all the time, it can make a person cranky! :D
I long for the rain... It seems to wash away all my worries and stress. It seems to cleanse my very soul.
But of course, here in north Texas, it hasn't rained at my house in a very long time. (Weeks, maybe months, it seems.) It seems to constantly pass me by.
...until today!
Once I got home and sat in front of the computer in an empty house, I wondered what to do next. Then I heard it! The thunder! The most awesome crackling of electricity in the sky! I jumped up! I've heard it before, but the rain never came. This time was different.
...FINALLY!
The thunder rumbled and grumbled through the sky. The lightening came next. I could feel the electricity moving through me. It gave me goosebumps!
I looked out my kitchen window and there it was!! The rain was here!
And finally, as if in a fit of anger, the rain poured down!
I ran outside and stood on my porch. As the rain swirled around and around, it whipped through the trees. It whipped through the bushes. I just sat on the porch watching it fall to the ground. The cool breeze and the smell of rain were intoxicating...
And just as I thought it might be time to go in and watch from the inside, the rain changed direction and whipped right into my face! HA! Can the rain call you out?! I felt as if it were.
So I took off my shoes, rolled up my jeans, and walked into the rain.
I can't even begin to explain the pleasure I felt as the rain caressed my face. I continued to walk further into the yard and down the driveway. The water running down the driveway felt cool as I stepped into it. Then as I reached the end of the concrete rectangle, I walked into the water gathering at my feet in the road. It felt warm to the touch -- warmed as it roared down the asphalt path.
And I looked toward the sky as the rain calmed down and yet remained steady and began to wash away my stress. It began to cleanse my spirit. I was determined to stay in the cleansing downpour until I felt sated and washed clean of my sadness, stress and worry.
I walked. Then I walked more. I walked around the yard, on the sidewalk, down the road. I watched neighbors glance at me from cars and windows. ...but I didn't care.
Pretty soon, my clothes were saturated. ...my hair dripped with rain. ...and I still didn't feel like going back into the dry house. I was comforted and held by the calming storms around me.
Even as I walked back up the driveway, I couldn't quite go in yet. I must stay here until I felt totally satisfied that I'd been cleansed and comforted. I stood on the porch. I closed my eyes and felt the cool water misting my face.
When I finally went back in, I checked the clock and realized I'd been outside a full hour. It didn't rain forever,
Deirdre, but it certainly rained long enough for me to feel cleansed and renewed and spiritually refreshed again.
....ah, yes. I just had to tell you, Ms. D -- I found it! I found the place you were talking about. And it IS heavenly....
